Essendon Just Lobbed 17 Shades Of Footy Heat In An A+ Netflix-Themed Parody

Just because it’s getting warmer now it does not mean that footy stops. Footy never stops. Footy never, ever stops. And with today’s launch of the 2019 AFL men’s fixture, the Essendon Football Club has taken this otherwise quiet opportunity to scorch the earth beneath the feet of all 17 other clubs.

Following the release of the fixture, Essendon used their suddenly-very-good video department to churn an insanely clever Netflix-style social media clip, which not only designates a different movie or TV show to each of the Dons season 2019 opponents, but does so in a way that ups the off-season banter factor by about 10,000%.

Better put some gloves on before you watch this. There’s some heat incoming.

Some notes:

  • Using He’s Just Not That Into You to reference Dylan Shiel picking Essendon over Carlton is some genius-level gear.
  • The added touch of the cash stuffed into Kangaroo Jack‘s jacket is so slyly shady it practically hurts.
  • Sunrise for Port might be low-hanging fruit, but it’s tasty fruit nonetheless.
  • That dodgy Photoshop of Mason Cox‘s scone onto the American Pie poster…

It simply does not get much better than that, folks. Classic bit of work.

Credit where it’s due: Football content like this is usually worthy of the most severe cringe. But somehow, against all odds, Essendon’s pulled one off here.

Hat’s off to ’em.
