“Disrespectful” Bernard Tomic Kicked Off Australia’s Davis Cup Team

In the past 24 hours, shit has escalated significantly between Bernard Tomic and Tennis Australia, with the 22-year-old player being kicked off Australia’s Davis Cup team after explosive comments he made in a press conference.
In case you missed it, yesterday, Tomic was knocked out of the Wimbledon tournament, then soon after, slammed Tennis Australia and Pat Rafter to the media, accusing them of neglect, incompetence and gross mismanagement.
Tennis Australia’s Steve Healy reportedly met with Tomic at Wimbledon and gave him an ultimatum, telling him to apologise for his remarks or be kicked out of the Davis Cup quarter-finals in Darwin.
Tomic refused, and was given the boot. In a subsequent statement, Healy said, that Tomic’s “disparaging and disrespectful” comments ruled him out of contention for the Davis Cup:
His behaviour was unacceptable. Playing for our country is an absolute privilege, and with that privilege comes an obligation to behave appropriately. He didn’t.

The allegations are misinformed and untrue and he publicly derided some outstanding people. We are trying to build a strong culture underpinned by a philosophy of opportunity, not entitlement. This stuff is just not on.

Hopefully he will learn from this. Our entire tennis community is committed to working hard to help all our players, including Bernard, be the best tennis players, and the best people, they can be.
Nick Kyrgios previously said that if Tomic did not play in the Davis Cup quarter final tie, he too would sit it out, for the sake of his friend. Tennis Australia say that they are “confident” he will still play, although he has not yet said anything on the matter.
