Our crocodile mates are partial to a lot of things, but they are not very keen on sports that require manual dexterity, a fact that was confirmed once again this week when one attacked a man at a Clive Palmer-owned course in Port Douglas.
Per ABC News, a man, aged in his 70s, disturbed a 1.2-metre saltwater crocodile that was minding its own business near a waterway at Palmer Sea Reef, after his ball landed nearby.
The man, who told staff he “may have” accidentally trod on said reptile while looking for said ball, received two puncture wounds in the leg and a trip to the emergency room for his trouble.
Crocodiles are so common on the far north Queensland course that there are warning signs up, and all newcomers are instructed not to mess with them at the clubhouse.
Following the incident, Clive Palmer told the Cairns Post “I’d advise people not to step on crocodiles,” adding “I suppose you can understand how it would respond to having someone step on its back.”
Wise words indeed, Clive.

Wildlife officers are currently trying to capture the croc in question, effectively Queensland’s answer to Fairway Frank. Once found, it will likely be taken somewhere balls do not fly at its nose – probably to a zoo or crocodile farm.
