Caroline Wozniacki Just Took Home The Australian Open, First Grand Slam Win

Caroline Wozniacki from Denmark has reclaimed her place as tennis world #1, after winning the Australian Open and her first grand slam, in three sets, 7-6, 3-6, 6-4, against Romanian Simona Halep, now ranked world #2.

She was last ranked #1, for 67 weeks, in 2012.

Caroline Wozniacki turned pro way back in 2005 – that’s 13 years to make it to this, her first grand slam win competing in 43 grand slams on her way to a Melbourne victory – 44’s her lucky number now, jks, she earned this, she is a fucking athlete.

Her win tonight also, fun fact, makes her the first Danish grand slam winner.

On the court, she said:

I dreamed of this moment for so many years. To be here today is a dream come true, I never cry but today is an emotional moment.

Simona, I know that today is a tough day, I’m sorry that I had to win. I’m sure we’ll have many matches in the future. It was an incredible match, you showed incredible fight, and again, I’m sorry.

It’s definitely a bummer for the 26-year-old Halep, who’s been on the pro circuit since 2006, but has also never won a grand slam.
