Daniel Geale has created history by becoming the first Australian-born boxer to unify two globally recognized titles in the same division. As an avid Tigers fan, he was able to harness the anger and frustration of his team’s shitty season to edge out German Felix Sturm in what was a fiercely contested bout. The seesawing battle went the full 12 rounds with Geale declared the winner by split decision.
For the 31-year-old fighter this means global recognition in one of the glamor divisions and has the potential to elevate him to household name status in the very lucrative US market. And all this for humble easygoing guy from Tasmania who has gone about achieving his 28 -1 – 15 KOs record without the ego or pretension that typifies modern day boxes. Not that I make a habit of ripping on dudes that could kill me with their bare hands in public forums.
