Aussie Olympian Set To Win London Gold 4 Years After Crossing Finish Line

On August 11 2012, Aussie race walker Jared Tallent crossed the finish line of the London Olympic’s grueling 50km race in second place, one minute behind Russian Sergey Kirdyapkin.

Four years later, Tallent will be wearing that Olympic gold. And Rio hasn’t even kicked off yet.

Okay, so: Tallent’s absurdly belated medal comes courtesy of the race’s ‘winner’ Kirdyapkin and a failed drug test. In January, he was smacked with a three-year-long suspension from the sport, after the nation’s athletics team was found guilty of widespread doping.

Although he was nixed earlier this year, confirming Tallent as champion, it seemed the Russian athlete would still be allowed to keep the medal
Now, that ain’t so. President of Australia’s Olympic Committee, John Coates, confirmed today Tallent will be given the gold with full Olympic honours, in Melbourne, on June 17.
And you better believe Tallent has brought the fucking bantz.

Oh, Tallent’s also been given the call-up for our Rio squad in the same 50km event, and he’s expected to back up his bronze medal claim on the 20km event, too.

FWIW, this brings our gold medal haul at the London Games up to 8. Here at PEDESTRIAN.TV, we have a soft sport for those repping our sporting namesake, so good onya mate.
