23-year-old Australian Jordan Thompson has bloody well gone ahead and defeated World #1 Andy Murray at the Queen’s Club Championship, winning the first-round match with a raucous 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 performance.

The #90-ranked Sydney-sider only took to the court after Aljaz Bedene withdrew due to a wrist injury, and he absolutely made the most of it. His strong-serving appearance was too much for the decidedly shaky Brit, whose unforced errors contributed to his first loss on grass since 2015.
“I’ve looked up to him and that’s definitely the biggest win of my career,” a decidedly-chuffed Thompson told the BBC.
“I took each point at a time. I didn’t expect it to be winning in straight sets.“I was sitting around yesterday hoping to get a match. Here I am, I got in the draw and I was so lucky to be here.”
For his part, Murray also recognised the quality of his opponent. “He played better than me. I didn’t create loads of chances. I didn’t return particularly well,” Murray said.
“He served big. He served well.”
Murray wasn’t the only big name wiped out in first-round action. Stan Wawrinka and Milos Raonic were also felled in surprise losses, but we guess they only would have lost to Thompson in the final anyway.
