After the Blues handily blew their State Of Origin lead last night, noted New South Welshman Andrew Johns had some choice words for his beloved squad – and most of them involved resentment at the fact they didn’t fuck Johnathan Thurston’s shoulder up even further.
From his position on Channel 9’s post-match commentary desk, the Immortal said the Blues’ second-half performance, in which they utterly folded to Queensland, was “the dumbest half of football New South Wales have played.”
A lot of that came down to the fact that talismanic Maroon Thurston was allowed to carry on with minimal interference, despite the fact he brought a crook shoulder to the pitch.

“There’s your game plan,” Johns offered.
“You go at him all night. You go at him, and you put pressure on the defender either side of him…“You’ve got a player out there who couldn’t pick his arm up off the ground, and they didn’t target him, his side of the field, or go at the defenders either side.”
There was even speculation that Thurston would be headed straight to surgery after the 16-18 win.
The decider is set to be held on Maroon home turf, at Brissy’s Suncorp Stadium on July 12. We’ll see if Thurston is fit in time for his opponents to execute Johns’ gameplan.
