The AFL has apologised “without reservation” for a stuff-up that saw a souvenir jersey commemorating Sam Mitchell as the 2015 Brownlow Medal winner go up for sale on its website, while the vote count was still continuing.

Last night, Fremantle star Nat Fyfe won the Brownlow, making him the first Docker to do so. 2014 winner Matt Priddis was second, while Mitchell came in third.
On Monday afternoon, however, a jersey went up for sale on the AFL’s site under the heading ‘GRAND SAM: 2015 BROWNLOW MEDALLIST’, going for a cool $1300.
The jersey was quickly taken down, but not before numerous screengrabs were shared on social media. Even though the fine print on the image read “concept purposes only”, many wondered if it was an actual leak of the result
Yesterday night, Media relations manager Patrick Keane tweeted about the mistake, apologising for the “epic fail” on the AFL’s behalf, blaming “human error” and noting that the Sam Mitchell jersey was one of six options:
Epic fail on website.
AFL had six Brownlow memorabilia options ready to go 4 when winner named. Human error went live with no result known.
