Adelaide United Topple Western Sydney Wanderers To Claim 1st A-League Title

If you ever needed to prove football’s place in Australia, show ’em this game.

Adelaide United have won the 2015-2016 A-League Grand Final, toppling Western Sydney Wanderers in a cracking 3 – 1 victory at Adelaide Oval.

Adelaide young gun Bruce Kamau opened scoring in the 22nd minute, searing past Wanderers’ defence to connect with a cross from Marcelo Carrusca.

Kamau was brought down on the edge of the box soon after by WSW captain Nikolai Topor-StanleyIsaias stepped up and buried an absolute curler into the top left, giving them a 2-0 lead just after the half-hour mark.

Oooh yeah 2-0 #aleaguegf #aleague #coyr #goreds

After sustaining a thorough hammering through the second half, Wanderers’ Scott Neville absolutely leathered his first ever goal for the club across the face of goal, pulling a vital goal back for the visiting squad.

After waves of Wanderer attacks, a scrambling goal for the Reds was ruled offside, before the visitors dominated possession.

Then, super-sub Pablo Sanchez happened for Adelaide. 3 – 1. And that’s all she wrote.

Coach Guillermo Amor’s United entered the clash as favourites after they finished on top of the ladder at the end of the regular season, where the Reds only suffered one defeat in their final 20 league matches. That makes today’s win even more grand, as the team capped off a stellar run in front of over 53,000 rabid footy fans.
Of course, it was Tony Popovic’s Wanderers who ended the season nipping at their heels, and their 2014 Asian Champion’s League win was proof the team rocks up to the big games. Still, spirited efforts from the new boys in the league went unrewarded for their third grand final appearance in their four-year existence.

Oh, the Red Army and their opposing Red & Black Bloc both had a bit of a parade too, bringing some terrifying hooliganism/actual atmosphere to the game.
