Adelaide Crows Coach Phil Walsh Murdered, Son In Custody

The Adelaide Football Club and the Australian footballing community are absolutely reeling this morning, with the sickening news emerging that Crows senior coach Phil Walsh has died, the victim of an apparent murder this morning, at the age of 55.

Police were called to Walsh’s Somerton Park residence in the early of hours of this morning following reports of a domestic dispute. Paramedics were also summoned to treat Walsh who had suffered multiple stab wounds, but he tragically died at the scene.
Authorities made a short search of the area before apprehending Walsh’s 26 year-old son, who was taken into custody and transported to Flinders Medical Centre for a psychiatric assessment.
Walsh’s wife Meredith was taken to hospital for treatment on a leg injury.
Walsh had assumed the role of Adelaide senior coach before the start of the 2015 season, having served a long tenure in assistant roles, with tenures at Geelong, West Coast, and Port Adelaide. This was preceded by a 7 year VFL career in which he played 122 games for Collingwood, Richmond, and the Brisbane Bears.
He had steered the Crows to a 7-5 record in his first year as senior coach.
Adelaide players this morning are gathering at the club’s headquarters in West Lakes. The team, for the moment, is schedules to play Geelong at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday afternoon.
RIP, Phil Walsh. This is absolutely horrific.
