A Bunch Of Legit Idiots Took #StandByGayle Signs To The Cricket

Let’s just look at this timeline of events for a moment, yeah? Because it forms a very neat little arc.

Now, admittedly, that last one serves really more as a frustrating epilogue to the episode. But by and large, that is a complete narrative structure: Chris Gayle does a thing, the public cries out, he gets fined. Action. Reaction. Resolution.
There are major Hollywood films that don’t have a three-act structure that tight.
And then last night happened, where a bunch of short-sighted pillocks took it upon themselves to drag #StandByGayle signs with them to the Big Bash League game at the MCG.
Not only that, they openly bragged about it.
Curiously enough, that Twitter post now seems to have magically disappeared. *plot thickens*
Other people at the game, however, were on hand to document the incident, which saw the group stand and chant the mantra, before MCG security arrived and confiscated the signs.

And today, the subsequent hashtag has attracted the attention of Internet users writ large.

Mostly by utterly charming types like this lot.

Look, you get the picture.

The MCG has since denied that the fans were actually ejected from the game – they’re officially sticking to the “signs confiscated” story – and Gayle, for his part, has launched legal action against Fairfax Media, over some of the allegations they published.
But for all the bleats of “double standards” by men who have never been subjected to a single incident of sexist behaviour in their lifetime, the following sums up the whole crux of the issue far better than I ever could.

That right there? That’s your bottom line, folks. Stop being dicks.
