Lockdown is not a vibe. Neither are breakups. But unfortunately, in my case, both have been my sad reality for the last month. So, it’s safe to say vibes are at an all-time low over here. What’s not low, however, is my libido. This 26-year-old Sydneysider is as horny as ever and lacking the ‘D’ in locky D, which is where the Lelo Sona 2 Cruise has really cum in handy.

As someone relatively new to the world of sex toys, I admit it was a little intimidating at first. Vibrators come in different shapes, sizes, modes, materials and colours, all catering to a myriad of different needs. So it can be hard to know when and what to start with.

If, like me, you want to ease yourself into exploring new ways to pleasure yourself (or a partner), allow me to recommend the Lelo Sona 2 Cruise as a great getting jumping-off point for a do-it-yourselfer.

Those feels when you’re single and vibrator-less in locky D

The pros

Let’s start with the fun part. The Lelo has 12 different vibration settings that you can flick through quicker than your Netflix cue. There is a range of different pulse variations, you’ve got some for the slow and steady lover, and you’ve got a constant stream of different vibration patterns (kinda like the old Nokia) for those wanting a little quickie. Personally, I’d recommend testing out those pulse variations and edge your way there before going ham on your clit.

Aside from the 12 different good vibes, it’s also got a ~cruise control~ feature. The first time you use the function, it comes as a bit of a surprise and jolts you back to reality for a second. However, once you get used to it, you’ll be thankful it’s got a mind of its own. She revs up as you do, so there’s no need to toggle back and forth on the speed and intensity.

Another huge selling point: The USB charging capability. Long gone are the days you needed a set of AA batteries to get your vibrator going. The Lelo comes with a USB charger cable, meaning you can charge her up during those long zoom calls before a cheeky midday mazz. Oh, and it’s 100% waterproof and perfect for a shower or bath sesh if that’s what tickles ya.

The other thing you can’t help but notice about the Lelo is how comfortable it is in your hand. It’s made from one single piece of silicone that’s soft to the touch and weighs less than 120g, so no carpal tunnel for those avid users. I also thought it was cute that you also receive a satin storage bag to keep it safe, clean and away from prying eyes.

sex and the city

Alrighty, let’s get to the cons

This list is short and sweet, but I am giving you all the facts. Now, maybe it’s the single lady in me, or maybe I’m just lazy, but my main gripe is that because of the handheld nature of the vibrator, it can be difficult to keep in place if you need other kinds of stimulation to orgasm. While I know everyone’s body is different and there are quite literally different strokes for different folks, and in my case, multiple strokes are needed, and not enough hands are on deck. Ya feel?

My only other gripe, and it’s a small one, is that the Lelo can sound like it’s about to launch (and take your vagina with it) when it really gets going. This is actually part of its built-in cruise control feature that automatically increases the intensity of the vibrations the more it’s pressed against the body. It’s a fkn great feature, don’t get me wrong, but it takes the noise level from a low murmur to a very noticeable hum. So if you are in a sharehouse, it might be worth putting some Tame Impala on to mask the buzz.

Overall, considering this was my first real foray into sex toys, I’d say I’m converted. Relationships with humans are great and all — you’ve got the benefits of love, someone to open those stubborn jars, and, of course, two additional hands to make you cum — but a relationship with my Lelo? Second to none.

The Lelo Sona 2 Cruise is currently on sale for $159 (down from $199) so if you, like me, need a helping hand, pat yourself on the back and bash that add to cart button.

Hey, Lelo, can I try the rabbit next? We will need to take this offline and discuss… internally.
