The world (or at least Instagram) is a happier and more wholesome place today as Rolling Stone has just unveiled their ~glorious~ new cover starring actual angel Shawn Mendes and the pics are just a beacon of light.

But while we, as die-hard Shawn Mendes stans, are overjoyed by this situation, the baben’ singer isn’t quite as pleased at how his story has been portrayed in the music mag.
Mendes appears to take issue with his coverline which reads ‘Confessions Of A Neurotic Pop Idol’ as well as the fact that all of the stories that have been published by other media outlets off the back of the interview are about his previous relationship with Hailey Bieber as well as his sexuality.
The caption of RS’ Insta announcement highlights these very topics:
In the feature, the singer talks to us about his dating life, the rumors about him being gay, being skeptical of his success and more. “I broke down in my hotel room,” he says. “I started crying, and I was just like, ‘This is why you talk about shit that actually is real.’ I was like, ‘God, don’t ever fucking question the feeling of writing the truth again.’”
Now, the 20-year-old has taken to Twitter to express his disappointment over how things went down.

Speaking of ex-GF Hailey, Mendes “acknowledges they were more than friends, but he’s still reluctant to call it a relationship: ‘I don’t even wanna put a title on it. I think it was more of a zone of limbo.’”
Shawn also described how he felt when Hailey got engaged one month after their Met Gala date and unfollowed him on Instagram.
I get it, you know. I texted Hailey, ‘Congratulations,’ and I really am happy for them. She’s still one of the f*cking coolest people ever—she’s not just a beautiful person visually, but she’s one of the most beautiful hearts I’ve ever met.
And as for all the rumours about his sexuality, he says he’d “like to say I don’t care about it, but that’s not true,” he admits. “[There’s been] this massive, massive thing for the last five years about me being gay.”
“In the back of my heart, I feel like I need to go be seen with someone—like a girl—in public, to prove to people that I’m not gay. Even though in my heart I know that it’s not a bad thing,” he adds.
“There’s still a piece of me that thinks that. And I hate that side of me.”
Sucks that he ~had to~ explain this shit but I guess magazines sell less copies when they’re about light and happy topics like how bloody sweet and cute our boi Shawn is. ‘Tis a sad world we live in, folks but at least there are angels like him to make us smile.
