Pete Davidson Joked That He’s The New Kevin Federline And, Um, Awkward

Pete Davidson

Pete Davidson has joked about the similarities between himself and Britney Spears‘ much-maligned ex Kevin Federline in a YouTube video that was recorded before his breakup with Ariana Grande, but released this week.

Davidson appears in the new episode of What The Fit, an unscripted comedy series in which Kevin Hart asks various friends to undertake fitness-related tasks with him – the activity in this particular episode was moving house.

Early on in the video, Davidson meets the people he’ll be moving, who are obviously surprised to see him rock up at the front door. “Oh my God, you’re engaged to Ariana Grande!” exclaims one of the women in disbelief. “Yes, I am. I’m Mr. Grande. It’s me, the new Kevin Federline,” he tells her.

At a later point in the video, Pete Davidson succumbs to the physical exertion of moving and ends up having an asthma attack in the back yard. When asked for his name by the medic, he jokes: “My real last name is Grande, but I go by Davidson.”

You can watch it below, depending on your tolerance level for Kevin Hart:

Kevin Federline was a backing dancer for artists like Justin TimberlakeDestiny’s Child and Pink before he began a  relationship with Britney Spears.

The two married in 2004 and he caught a lot of heat in the media for leaving his pregnant fiance Shar Jackson, with many accusing him of going after Brit for her money. They split in 2006, finalising their divorce in 2007, and have two sons together.

Self-deprecating jokes aside, Pete Davidson was obviously the less famous one in his relationship with Ariana Grande, but he did and does enjoy a profile of his own as a stand-up comedian and Saturday Night Live star, so if anything, he’s more like Guy Ritchie to Ari’s Madonna.

Earlier this year, it was announced that he would be teaming with Trainwreck and Knocked Up director Judd Apatow for a “semi-autobiographical” film about his experiences growing up around Staten Island, New York. He co-wrote the script, and is set to star in the lead role.
