Got a secret, can ya keep it? No? Eh, that’s fine, the news is out anyways: Lucy Hale has been cast as the lead for upcoming Riverdale spinoff Katy Keene.

Earlier this year, Riverdale/Chilling Adventures of Sabrina mastermind Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa announced plans to create a musical series based on Katy Keene, another character from the Archie Comics Universe.

“The universe expands!” Roberto wrote at the time. “Thrilled to be bringing the adventures of Katy Keene and her New York pals to life! Extra-thrilled to be doing this with my pal Michael Grassi.”

He has taken to social media once again to announce that the former Pretty Little Liars star has been cast as the lead role.

“It’s official! @lucyhale joins the #Archieverse as fashion it girl #katykeene! Thrilled to be working with this lovely lady!” He wrote, accompanied by a side-by-side pic of Hale and the comicbook character.

Hale also shared the exciting news on her Instagram, writing:

Well I’m slightly freaking out ! Thank you @archiecomics / @writerras / @thecw / @warnerbrostv / @thatthingofwhen for trusting me to be your KATY KEENE. my heart is bursting.

The musical dramedy ‘chronicles the origins and struggles of four aspiring artists trying to make it on Broadway, on the runway and in the recording studio’, via Variety.

Katy is described as a ‘bold, big-hearted and independent twenty-something New Yorker, who aspires to be a fashion designer’.

She joins previously announced cast members including Camille Hyde, Lucien Laviscount, Ashleigh Murray, Jonny Beauchamp, and Julia Chan.

Robert Aguirre-Sacasa and Michael Grassi will write and executive produce the series, with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Jon Goldwater also executive producing.

Keene AF!
