Whilst I’m sure we can all agree the TV series musical episode thing peaked when Buffy the Vampire Slayer did it in ‘Once More With Feeling‘ in 2001, the TV lords continue to revisit the trope, this time with CW/Netflix sexy-teen-murder-drama Riverdale.
It won’t be along the lines of “the whole town is singing because of a magic” style however, with the “musical” actually taking place within the world of Archie and co. in the form of the local high school putting on a performance of Carrie: The Musical.
In case you’ve never read the Stephen King novel or seen the 1986 movie or the 2013 movie or any of the hundreds of pop culture references in TV and film over the past few decades, Carrie is the story of that high school girl who has super powers, gets blood dumped on her at prom then sets her school on fire with her mind. It’s literally lit.
Anyway here’s the “cast”:
Yep, this means we get to see Archie, Betty, Veronica and all the Riverdale fam actually sing. With their mouths. Extraordinary scenes, mates.
You’ll note Jughead aka my boyfriend Cole Sprouse is listed as The Beak, but he’ll also apparently be in charge of filming the documentary of the musical, which makes sense because as we all know Jughead is ~TOO WEIRD~.
The episode will air April 18. Bring it.
