If you ever needed any evidence that the universe is a cruel and unjust bitch, here it is: ya boy Cole Sprouse won’t be blessing us with his luscious singing voice in Riverdale‘s upcoming musical episode.
Wah wah.
According to TV Line, Riverdale’s executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa spoke about Cole’s unwillingness to sing at a press conference.
“Cole and I talked about it a while ago, and I said, ‘How do you feel about musicals?’” Roberto said. “At that time, we were going to do Little Shop of Horrors. And he basically said, ‘Listen, I never sang for Disney. It would take a lot.’”
Obviously, you remember the absolute classic that is The Suite Life of Zach and Cody, which Sprouse starred in along with his twin brother Dylan.
Apparently, Cole’s dislike for musical numbers permeates every facet of his existence, he wouldn’t even join in for a few belters for the show’s 1st season wrap party.
“So literally every cast member sang but Cole,” Aguirre-Sacasa said. “Every parent, every kid, every crew member sang . . . except for Cole. So it was like, ‘Okay, got it.’”
Don’t fret, Jughead will still be a very important part of the episode. They decided to have him film a behind the scenes documentary of the musical to make it a bit more in line with his character.
Riverdale will be performing Carrie: The Musical on April 18, get keen.
