Study Shows That Dog Owners Live Longer, So Bring On All The Floofers Pls

Dog Owners Live Longer

As if we needed another reason to love the shit out of the canine community, a Swedish study has shown that dog owners live longer than those without dawgs.

Yep, aside from the pure unadulterated joy that dogs bring into our lives, they also lower our mortality rates.

brb, just hitting up the RSPCA

According to a BBC News report, the study of over 3.4 million Swedes looked at national registers of people aged 40-80, and then compared those figures to dog ownership registers.

The research team discovered that those with dogs had a lower risk of developing cardiovascular disease, which you may think is just down to the extra exercise you do when you have a pup, but it’s not quite that simple.

Aside from increasing activity, dogs also affect their humans’ microbiome, which is the bacteria that lives in the gut. The study found that dogs “change the dirt in home environments”, introducing their owners to bacteria they wouldn’t have been exposed to otherwise.

Dr Mike Knapton of the British Heart Foundation told the BBC:

Dog ownership has many benefits, and we may now be able to count better heart health as one of them. However, as many dog owners may agree, the main reason for owning a dog is the sheer joy.

You’re not wrong, Mike. You’re not wrong.
