A 27-year-old bloke who was fired at while out casually target shooting in Montana on the weekend has apparently told the cops that his attacker “mistook him for Bigfoot“.

The guy was out on public land outside the city of Helena setting up targets when he was suddenly assailed by bullets: one hitting three feet to his left, another on the right.

He told authorities that he ran into the trees for cover as the gunfire followed him. When it stopped he went to confront the man – who was apparently in a black Ford F-150 – and ask the obvious question: why tf are you shooting at me, buddy?

Our victim reckons – and this quote is care of Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton – the shooter told him: “I thought you were Bigfoot. I don’t target practice – but if I see something that looks like Bigfoot, I just shoot at it.

The mid boggles at that last sentence: “If I see something that looks like Bigfoot, I just shoot at it.

What gets me here is: why is it okay for this mystery man to fire at Bigfoot? Why the urge to assassinate Bigfoot? There’s just no evidence to suggest Bigfoot is anything more than a gentle monkey man, who definitely fucks.

Apparently from there, the shooter, still as yet unidentified, advised his victim to wear orange in future.

Detectives are trying to figure out who the dude in the car is, if the dude indeed exists, as “there was some question about the veracity of the report”, considering the guy who was shot at couldn’t describe the Bigfoot hunter he allegedly met, and didn’t wanna press charges or talk to police. If caught the dude who hates Bigfoot (???) may face negligent homicide charges.

They’ve also canvassed the area for the car but haven’t found it. Still: it looks like the story might not a big fib, because a woman who could actually describe her assailant, told cops she’d been shot at by the man in the F-150 too.

Here’s Dutton’s last word on the matter: “We’re working to find this person. It is of great concern that this individual might think it’s okay to shoot at anything he thinks is Bigfoot.

Translation: it is NOT okay to shoot at anything you think is Bigfoot.
