Get your tissues out, ‘cos this one may or may not have you in floods: a 10-year-old boy called Owen Mahan, who happens to be a double amputee, has just had his day/life made thanks to a very special doggo called Chi Chi.
Chi Chi is a bit of a sensation. She’s an angelic Golden Retriever whose sunny disposition has never once been dimmed, despite the fact that she herself is a quadruple amputee.
The sweet baby pupper was found in a dumpster in South Korea with her legs all tied up in wire, the wounds rapidly becoming infected. The only way vets were able to save her life was by removing all four of her legs – but if you think that’s made her bitter, you’d be entirely wrong.
She’s now living a blessed life with her adoring foster family in Phoenix, Arizona, and doing god’s work as a therapy dog – which is how she came to meet Owen.
Owen is a massive fan of Chi Chi, so it sure seems like a dream come true that he got to fly from Indiana to Arizona and spend an entire weekend with her. They hung out, played wiffle ball, lounged around cuddling and (we assume) had the kinds of deep conversations that only ten-year-olds and dogs can have. Look at this pair. They have the kind of bond anyone would be jealous of.
Owen told ABC news:
It made me really happy. We both got our legs amputated.
Owen’s mum added,
I don’t think Owen realizes he looks different than anyone else just because in the community we live in he’s so accepted
But someday, someone is going to point that out to him. So him meeting Chi Chi and seeing how someone besides him got up and keeps going will help him a lot now and as he gets older.
Considering pretty much the entire world is in love with Chi Chi, it seems like a damn good source of inspiration.
