More than 300 businesses across Chapel St have officially become pet-friendly from today.

Clothing stores, salons, gyms, co-working spaces and even banks have joined in on the effort, so you can enjoy a little retail therapy with your four-legged friend in tow. Additionally, a number of restaurants and cafes have become pet-friendly, with designated spaces that comply with health regulations that require animals to be kept at least 10m away from food preparation and consumption areas.

The initiative has been led by the Chapel Street Precinct Association in an attempt to make the area a more social, positive experience for locals.

“World Animal Day is a global celebration for all animals and the people that love and respect them, so instead of keeping your special friend locked up at home while you’re shopping – take them with you,” Chrissie Maus of the Chapel Street Precinct Association said.

“Chapel Street knows how important the relationship is between humans and animals, so this won’t just be for one weekend, we want you to bring your furry friends here fur-ever.” Chrissie said.

Bringing your dog on your shopping adventure has grown increasingly more popular in recent years, but it’s mostly common in places like Bunnings, where it doesn’t really matter if your dog gets up to a little mischief. But this new initiative means you can bring your four-legged-friend with you while you’re perusing through Alice McCall or JB Hi-Fi. Total game changer, I know.

The association has even created adorable ‘paw-on-the-door’ stickers for local businesses to display if they’re pet-friendly.

Businesses involved include Cotton On Body, Flight Centre, Peter Alexander and Westpac Bank, as well as restaurants including Betty’s Burger and Chapel St’s iconic Holy Grail.
