US Embassy Apologises For Accidentally Emailing Everyone This Sweet Cat Pic

The United States embassy in Canberra is blaming a “training error” for a fake meeting invitation featuring a cat in pyjamas which was sent out by the US State Department to a number of its contacts last week.

The email was innocently titled “meeting“, but once opened, revealed the image of a darling kitty cat wearing Cookie Monster jim-jams and holding a plate of chocolate chip biscuits. Above the pic were reportedly the words “cat pajama-jam“.

After a passage of Latin (presumably Lorem ipsum), respondents had the option to click an RSVP button. We’re assuming most did.

Unfortunately the cat pyjama-jam was not to be. US Mission to Australia public affairs counsellor Gavin Sundwall issued the following apology in a further email two days after the original was sent out:

Sorry to disappoint those of you who were hoping to attend this ‘cat pajama-jam’ party, but such an event falls well outside our area of expertise.

It was a training error made by one of our new staff testing out our email newsletter platform.

The US embassy has assured the public that “strong new management controls” would be implemented to avoid a repeat of the error, to which we say: boo! Bring back the cat!!!!!

The people have spoken: more cat pictures in meeting invites. It’s the least the US administration can do, after all… *gestures helplessly to the last 18 months, the disastrous present, and the apocalyptic future*. The world is irretrievably turning to shit and there’s not much we can do about it. We all deserve more pics of cats in PJs.
