Folks, gather round, because I’ve got some news that may spin you off your very axis, or, at the very least, spin you off your microwave plate.
According to TikTok, you’ve been using your microwave all wrong. Your nonna has been using it wrong too. Pretty much everyone you know has just been out here looking like micro-fools.
“You know when you reheat food in the microwave and some parts are hot enough to burn your mouth while some parts are just frozen?” says TikToker @tanyahomeinspo.
“Well that happens because you shouldn’t actually have your food in the middle of the plate, it should be on the edge so it can rotate around and cook evenly.”
Call me a silly little Italian, but I have never thought to do this with my microwave. All the leftover spaghetti bolognese just goes straight in the middle of the glass dish, and then comes out with a whole smorgasbord of temperatures throughout the meal.
You can have a look at the viral TikTok below.
Sure it isn’t the most revolutionary hack, but it’s just one of those things that nobody ever really thinks of doing, which is the insane part.
I actually tried this out on a lovely little dish of homemade spaghetti marinara and, well, it heated up perfectly. I don’t think I’ve ever put something in the microwave and had it come out so perfect.
I dunno about you, but I’m definitely sold on this ‘hack’. Someone let me know how it goes on dishes that aren’t swimming in a very easy-to-reheat pasta sauce.
One of the questions that I have though, which was also raised in the comments section of Tanya Home Inspo’s TikTok, is what happens when you have a big ol’ plate that can’t really just sit on the edge of the glass dish?
No doubt someone out there has the answer. Guess I’ll just have to wait for the next microwave hack video to come out and solve this dilemma I have.
If you need me, I’m gonna be putting my small plates and containers into the microwave for the next hour just to see if this hack is foolproof. It’s me, I am the fool, and I’m looking for proof.
