We Asked 13 People For Their Niftiest (And 100% Legit) Ways To Make Some Extra Cash

Extra cash

Making money is way too hard. It’s like, I get paid every month, feel rich for a second and then count down the days until the next instalment comes my way. I’m not saying I’m terrible with money but what I am saying is that I always want more (and I’m not ashamed to admit it).

After hearing some whisperings of clever money wins happening around the office (and desperately wanting in on the action), I decided it was time to crowdsource a list of the smart ways people top up their bank balances. Keep on reading to find out exactly how the PEDESTRIAN.TV team is making a little bit of extra cash this month.

1. “If you have a parking space in the city that you don’t use, rent it out. Compare prices on Parkhound and advertise yours a lil’ cheaper.”

2. “If you have a car, go to council picks ups and sell what you find on Facebook Marketplace.”

3. “Ahead of flower-heavy occasions like Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day, sign up to delivery for a courier service and you’ll drive around for a few hours dropping off flowers to offices and homes. I think I earned $250 for roughly three hours of work.”

4. “You can literally do online surveys while watching TV with websites like OpinionWorld. It’s 10-15 minutes of answering some qs and you cop a gift card reward from a bunch of well known shops.”

5. “I have friends who never use their car, so they pop it up on Car Next Door and make a pretty penny.”

6. “Every few seasons I find myself wanting to trash old clothes, but they are sometimes still in good nick so I want to make some cash off of them. Enter: Depop. It takes a little more effort but it’s a fun and easy way to sell used clothes for some extra cash. I also have gone to this place called SWOP, you can take clothes in to donate and they either give you store credit OR you can get half what you would have got in credit in cash.”

7. “Go to small rural towns and buy cheap secondhand clothing, then flip them for 50 x the price at Glebe Markets.”

8. “A couple of years ago, I used a Google AdWords promotion to run $100 worth of free ads with my food delivery app (you know the one) referral code and targeted search terms. I made $600 worth of vouchers from first-time referrals.”

9. “A mate of mine acts as a handyman on weekends on Airtasker to make a quick buck from people like me who don’t know how to do household things like put together furniture, put in lightbulbs, hang paintings etc.”

10. “Facebook Marketplace has been king for me — old furniture, plates, unused (engagement gift) cutlery AND I have even sold some backyard trees that were still in the ground that people came removed and paid me for it WTAF! I reckon I have done upward of 3K on Marketplace this year.”

11. “Selling old designer clothes in designer FB groups. If you’ve got cult brands like Spell, you can sell your Spell pieces in their dedicated buy, swap, sell pages and basically get your money back.”

12. “My insurance provider has a great deal where I can log my steps or exercise and be rewarded with gift vouchers for Woolies, which is a massive win for saving on groceries!”

13. “A few weeks ago I was playing a show at The Lansdowne and the lighting guy didn’t show up. Our manager asked if I’d ever done lighting before and I lied and said yes because I really wanted to do it. One of the sound guys showed me the basics and I managed to get through lighting 2 sets for the other bands on the lineup. I made $150! Fake it till ya make it, I say.”

And with that, dear friends, I leave you to make some extra cash, clean out your entire house to make an extra buck and then inevitably spend it all on glorious things you don’t need. Just the way we like it.
