You Can Now Rent The Home From ‘The Castle,’ Jousting Sticks Not Included

A man’s home is his castle.

A wise man once said that. And he stuck his heels in to defend the principle of that statement in the face of a Government who was dead keen to enact a compulsory acquisition. The resulting High Court win represented a landmark not just for the constitutional rights of the individual in Australia, but for the bloody vibe of the whole thing as well.
And though that vaunted holiday in Bonnie Doon might still be a little ways off, you can now rent yourself a pure slice of Australiana, and score yourself not just a house, but a home in the process.
The Kerrigan Family house, featured in the iconic and should-be-taught-in-schools Aussie film ‘The Castle‘ has been listed for lease on RealEstate.com.au.
The property, sadly not at 3 Highview Crescent, Coolaroo (because that address doesn’t exist), but rather at 3 Dagonet Street, Strathmore, was used during the filming of the 1997 hit film, and has since been renovated on the inside.
But the house still retains the charm it had when the Kerrigans lived there; the property nestled into the armpit of the glorious Essendon Airport; beneath the power lines that remind us all of man’s ability to generate electricity; even though the hole that Dale dug may have been filled in long ago.
The 3 bedroom property, listed at $380 per week, sports a “lounge room with gas heater, central bathroom with shower over bath, large kitchen/dining area with ample cupboard space, spacious sunroom, separate laundry and one off street car space.” Though the backyard should still have plenty of room for you to store the Camira, the Commodore, the Torana, and the Cortina if need be.
The place apparently cops people knocking on the door asking for former resident Daryl Kerrigan to this day. Probably from old Trading Post listings or something.
Regardless, if you’re in the market for a three-bedder with enough room to swing a jousting stick or two around in it, this could bloody well be the place for you.
Though you might want to get Dennis Denuto to look over the paperwork before you sign the lease.
Y’know, just to make sure there’s no nasty surprises.
