World leaders including UK PM Boris Johnson and Canadian PM Justin Trudeau have been filmed during an apparent group roast of US President Donald Trump, causing a diplomatic spat at an ongoing NATO conference in London.
Footage captured during a Tuesday evening event at Buckingham Palace shows Johnson, Trudeau, French President Emmanuel Macron, Dutch PM Mark Rutte, and British royal Princess Anne hamming it up at someone’s expense.
“Is that why he was late?” Johnson said.
Macron stepped in to say something, but was cut off by Trudeau.
“He was late because he takes a forty-minute press conference off the top [of the head]. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, he announced–”, Trudeau said, before Macron stepped in with more inaudible but clearly impassioned comments. Rutte then shared a laugh with the French leader.
The video cuts to Trudeau telling Princess Anne “I’ve watched his team’s jaws just drop to the floor.”
While the target of their ire is never stated, it’s pretty obvious they’re talking about Trump, who chucked a long and very impromptu press conference with Macron on Monday.
The video caused Trump to shitcan a planned press conference with Trudeau, who he labelled “two-faced”.
But that wasn’t the end of the matter. Trump left London early, despite a whole slate of diplomatic talks which remain on the schedule.
When pushed on the issue, Trudeau said his “jaws drop” comment referred to Trump’s announcement that the next G7 summit will be held at US stronghold Camp David.
“I think that was an unscheduled announcement, and I think everyone’s team, every different leader has teams whose jaws drop at unexpected surprises, like that video for example.”

Separately, footage emerged of Princess Anne refusing to sidle up to the Trumps at Buckingham Palace, despite a very clear gesture from her mum, Queen Elizabeth II.

Despite all of that, Trump insisted this morning that everyone thinks he is great, actually.
The Fake News Media is doing everything possible to belittle my VERY successful trip to London for NATO. I got along great with the NATO leaders, even getting them to pay $130 Billion a year more, & $400 Billion a year more in 3 years. No increase for U.S., only deep respect!

All in all, not a great showing from a guy with a pathological fear of being insulted by anyone with a shred of power.
