Girlfriend & Mates Of QLD Man Killed Via Woodchopper Now Persons Of Interest

The single most gruesome death in 2017 – that of Queensland man Bruce Saunders, 54, who was killed via a woodchipper – has taken an even more awful turn: his girlfriend and two mates are now all persons of interest, and there’s a potential love triangle involved.

The Courier Mail reports that his girlfriend Sharon Graham, 57, who is also coincidentally the sole benefactor of Saunders’ will, is a person of interest, as are friends Greg Roser, 58, and Peter Koenig, 61. The paper also reports that police believe Roser and Graham were romantically linked, while she had known the other mate, Koenig, for years.

Koenig and Roser were both with Saunders at the time of his death. At the time, Inspector Paul Algie said they were “traumatised, and described the aftermath as “one of the worst incident scenes I’ve ever seen”.

“It was actually quite horrific,” he said. “His friends discovered him as he became entangled and attempted to extract him from the shredder and were unable to do so. So they’re obviously quite traumatised now.”

But now both friends and Graham are persons of interest. The Courier Mail reports that they are no longer speaking to police under advice from their lawyers.

In February, Detective Inspector Gary Pettiford said that nothing was wrong with the woodchipper, including its safety features, and that it would not pull someone in if they fell. He concluded that it meant Saunders was likely pushed.

Saunders had changed his will about a year prior to his death, removing his only son as the main beneficiary. The family is now contesting the will because it is “out of character with Bruce’s wishes previously stated”, according to a family spokesperson.

He had also increased his life insurance policy weeks before his death, meaning Graham could inherit hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Saunders’ step-son described his step-dad as being the type of man who “wouldn’t harm a fly”.

“If it was foul play they’ve found the most easiest target,” said Liam Rogers. “He was so trusting he didn’t deserve it.”

The investigation continues.
