Woman Tries To Smuggle Six Kilos Of Cocaine Into Australia Stashed In Books

Because actually reading books is for losers obviously – an ingenious South African woman has found a much better, and more criminal, use for them: hollowing them out and using them to smuggle cocaine into Australia.

Last night Australian Federal Police officers apprehended the 32-year-old woman, who was travelling into Perth from Johannesburg.

According to a joint statement from the AFP and the Australian Border Force, the woman allegedly stashed about six kilos of pure white snow in six books, hidden throughout her luggage. Those packages were found by the ABF officers who examined her bag.

Initial testing returned a positive result for coke, but its exact weight and purity will be “subject to further forensic testing“.

The woman has been charged with importing a commercial quantity of a border-controlled drug. A commercial quantity of cocaine, under Australian law, is 250 grams or more, with a kilo or more of nośe judged a large commercial quantity.

The maximum penalty for the offence is life imprisonment.

She was scheduled to appear in Perth Magistrates Court today.
