A Woman Has Died After Falling Overboard From A Sydney Ferry

A woman has died after she went overboard on a ferry service on Sydney Harbour this morning.

Earlier this morning, several news agencies reported that a body had been pulled from the water near Garden Island after being spotted by a member of the public.

A ferry bound from Circular Quay to Manly stopped just before 9am, with passengers on board reporting that someone had fallen off the vessel.

The Sydney Morning Herald quotes a passenger who says that an announcement was made on the ferry that someone had gone overboard:

The Manly Ferry just stopped near Fort Denison. We heard some shouting and then I went down the back. I heard a guy on the boat saying that a woman might have jumped or fell into the harbour. An announcement on the boat said there was a man overboard. We’ve just been sitting here.

The woman was retrieved from the water, but was unable to be resuscitated. NSW Police say the woman’s death is not being treated as suspicious, and they are preparing a brief for the coroner.
