Wil Anderson Tells Audience He Got Arrested ‘Cos Of His “Really Bad Back”

Comedian Wil Anderson got arrested this afternoon while disembarking a flight from Sydney to Wagga Wagga, reportedly for “playing up” while the plane was in the air.

He was released in time to make his sold-out show at the Civic Theatre, where he ran his audience through some of what actually happened on the flight:

“A funny thing happened to me on the way to the show tonight. I have a bad back […] They put me in an emergency exit row.

Just before we were about to take off, the flight attendants came up to me and said, ‘Your back is too bad for you to operate that door.’”
Sounds like a bit of a shit situation, we’ll give him that. A clapped-out back and cattle class seats are not a great mix – and it sounds like he didn’t think the flight crew were super helpful, either.
He reportedly tweeted about the Qantas flight after he’d disembarked, saying:
“A big f— you to the crew at Qantas for their no help today. Sorry Wagga if I can’t walk when I get off the plane today.”
(The tweet has now been deleted.)

Anderson told reporters outside the show that the arrest itself was the result of a “misunderstanding“.
“I have a sore back and I was up and about pacing and there was a misinterpretation of my intentions in my pacing. I was just trying to stretch out my back.”
He said that there had been no charges yet, and hoped that it would stay that way. He also said he’d never forget Wagga Wagga, which, yep, understandable.
Hope your back feels better, mate. Maybe fly Virgin next time?
