Well, That Coin-Operated Loo Might Just Be A Hoax, Thank Fucken Christ

OH THANK FUCKING CHRIST.
ICYMI, a seemingly distressed Redditor posted a seemingly heartfelt question, asking if it was legal for their landlord to install a coin-operation machine to control the amount of time they flushed the toilet in their home.
… Yup. Ew. Gross, right?
Anyway, classic sceptical Reddit, they all asked for proof because they thought it to be a hoax, and so, the OP posted this:

While this sufficed for a short while, and the story was picked up almost instantly by nearly every news source in the country (yes, including us), a few Redditors remained sceptical.
Comments on the OG thread show that everyone’s even more confused post-photo, because it doesn’t seem to make a whole lotta sense:
“Funny how OP has to use an 8 quarter $2 coin slot to pay $1. What a fucking liar.”

“How would pushing in the coin receptacle make the toilet flush? Those coin operated devices are electrical. Is the flush operated by an electric solenoid?
How do you flush that design of cistern from the side? They are designed to be operated from the top.”

“It’s a fake, the coin machine casts no shadow, and the area around where the flush button used to be has been erased using the clone tool, if you look closely you can see a piece of the old reflection of the button in the tiles..

Also; the top of the coinbox around where the lid meets the coinbox is also blurred horribly, in a vastly amatur [sic] attempt at adding a natural shadow.
If I’m wrong, OP should have no problems providing a short video.”
Plus, check this super-sleuthing on site Think More Betterer – the author found an image of a coin-op washing machine from the United States that has a slot that looks eerily similar to the one next to this rando bog in Melbourne:
“A search for “coin operated washer” in Google Images filtering for only large images returns this image in the top results – with a coin mechanism that looks like a pretty good match.”
“And after just a minute or two in Photoshop with the basic Free Transform tools we find that it’s actually a perfect match, even down to shadows and scuff marks.”

Well, we absolutely do not know anymore. What is real? Is it paying $1 AUD to drop the kids off at the pool every single day, in your own damn home? Or is it people photoshopping pictures on the internet to get heaps of upvotes?
Those are your two options, and they’re both… quite bad. Sorry about that.
