We Are Devastated To Inform You That Precious Cockatoo Debbie Has Died

NO NO NO NO NO.

We are extremely devastated to inform you that the plucky little cockatoo caught in Cyclone Debbie, whom PEDESTRIAN.TV writer Ben McLeay christened Feathers McFuck, has died.

The precious little cocky was caught out in the category 4 cyclone that swept through Queensland on Tuesday. She was rescued by Townsville Bulletin photographer Alix Sweeney. and survived her first night, but was sadly found lifeless in her box this morning.

Debbie, as the cockatoo was also known, has now been buried in the same forest where she was found, along with two other cockees and a peewee that perished during the storm.

“People think wildlife are instinctive about thing like cyclones, but there was an entire flock of cockatoos caught out in the open and a lot of them died,” said the Bulletin’s John Anderson.

Sweeney had contacted wildlife carers upon rescuing Debbie, but they were unable to reach her thanks to flooding.

“She was fed dry biscuits and sunflower seeds, which is all we had, but she hardly drank any water,” said Sweeney. “It was just unfortunate that we couldn’t access an eye dropper or a syringe to try and give it water.”

RIP Feathers. Taken too soon from this cruel world.
