WATCH: Waleed Aly Endures V. Tense Moment With Anti-Muslim Trump Supporter

Look, Donald Trump’s campaign events have been wild for the duration of this unbearable election cycle, but they’ve been especially rough in the last 48 hours. ICYMI, a bloke was roughhoused and turfed out of a rally in Nevada – and Trump was ushered off stage by security – just because the dude held a sign.

That’s the political climate The Project’s host Waleed Aly has been navigating over the past few days, and it was on display during tonight’s package on a recent Trump rally. While Aly admitted surprise at the overall warmth of many attendees, he did note a certain volatility in the crowd, and a pervading “darkness.”

That tense undercurrent was put on display in one moment. Aly, a Muslim man, found himself interviewing a woman who said her support of Trump was founded on his apparent desire to deport Muslims from the country.

“He is going to kick out the illegal… terrorists,” she said, with some pretty serious trepidation. When pressed on whether she meant illegal immigrants, she doubled-down by saying “no I do mean the Muslim…uh, I have to watch what I say.”

Aly’s main message was that the make-up of Trump’s support can’t be simply defined. Conversely, he also demonstrated that fear you’ve heard so much about by now is a very real thing. Check that specific exchange out from 2:50 below:
