WATCH: This Mental Footage Of A Cop Pelting An Object At A Motorcyclist

A new dashcam video shows a policeman throwing an object that looks a lot like a road sign at a motorbike speeding through an RBT station in Narwee, NSW

The footage, uploaded by Dash Cam Owners Australia, shows the motorbike tear through the RBT station, forcing one policeman to jump to avoid being run over. A second policeman enters the frame, and throws what appears to be a road sign or clipboard at the motorcyclist, in an attempt to get him to stop.
The sign hits the man’s helmet, but he stays on the bike and speeds away, with officers in pursuit. This is how it went down:
Here’s the first policeman, jumping out of the path of the incoming motorbike.
Fuuuuuuck, right? Like, probs don’t run down a cop when they’re trying to get you to stop, hey.
But here’s the second policeman, attempting to slow the motorcyclist by throwing a road sign (or something) at him.
Woah. Okay. We are quite aware that we are not experts or anything, but is… is that legal?
The police said that the motorcyclist is 21, and “evaded a stationary random breath test site on Littleton Street, Riverwood, after being signalled to stop by police.” It’s alleged that the cyclist then sped down Hannans Road, where he was signalled to stop by a second RBT site, and refused to stop once again.
The police state that a “short pursuit” ensued, but was “terminated due to safety concerns”. Police were then called to the scene of a collision between a motorcycle and a vehicle, where the motorcyclist fled the scene.
A 21-year-old man was arrested near the scene, and was taken to the Bankstown Hospital for “mandatory blood and urine samples”, with charges pending.
The police statement concludes with the vague line “all circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation and inquiries continue,” and makes no reference to the policeman’s attempt to slow the motorcyclist.
So, even though this guy was being extremely reckless, and even though he dangerously sped through two RBTs – does that make it okay for him to be smacked in the face with a random object? Yeeeeeeesh.

Update: P.TV received the following response, regarding the legality of this situation:
Section 230 of the Law Enforcement (Powers and Responsibilities) Act 2002 regulates the use of force generally by police officers. Section 231 is framed in similar terms in respect of the use of force to be applied in making arrests.

It is lawful for a police officer exercising a function under this Act (in this case stopping the rider for reasons which may well be valid) to use such force as is reasonably necessary to exercise that function.

In this case throwing a projectile at the rider who is riding away at some not insignificant speed in circumstances throwing the rider momentarily off balance is arguably an unreasonable use of force and could have lead to significant consequences for the rider had he or she lost control as a result of the projectile being thrown and come off their bike. It is apparent that a number of high powered highway patrol vehicles were quickly engaged to pursue the rider.

As to whether the officer could be charged? I think it unlikely given police [culture’s tendency] to look after their own. That is not to say that there are no instances where police conduct results in internal disciplinary proceedings against an officer or where criminal charges are also laid.”
