WATCH: Still Confused About Preferential Voting? Here’s The Vid 4 U

The Federal Election is this coming Saturday, if you somehow managed to get this far without learning that fact (gold star for you, if true).

And whilst we all sit and wait the glorious day of democratic sausages (and the sweet relief of the broadcast media blackout period that starts on Wednesday night thank fuck) there’s still a reasonable chance that a handful of you are a bit at-sea over this whole preferential voting brouhaha and how your vote works exactly. Y’know, beyond all the petty bickering from the major parties about preference deals and such.
So instead of grabbing for a how-to-vote card on Saturday in between bites of your constitutionally owed snag in bread, Brisbane news/satire group The Undercurrent have thrown together this seriously bloody excellent little video explaining the importance of preferential voting, the role that independent MPs and senators play in the democratic process of parliament, and cover all the basics you’ll need to make your own informed decision come Saturday.
It’s a super neat little thing, put together without any secret or understated financial backing from any political party, lobby group, or union (unlike some that have been peppering the internet this election season), and dang it, it’s actually pretty funny.
Plus old mate who hosts it has a weird streak of white in his beard that makes him look like a distant relative of Rogue, and that’s badass.

That’s as good a message as anyone could ever give you before an election: Do a little Googling, find out about your candidates, and make the right choices for you. Not the choices any one party wants you to make.
DEMOCRACY!
