WATCH: Pauline Hanson Sits Silently In A Chair For One And A Half Hours

The SBS doco on Pauline Hanson, ‘Please Explain’, aired last night, and it was exactly what you’d expect: a neat little political history, punctuated with great shots of Hanson from a low angle with sinister string music playing. Boo!

But the true treat of the evening was Hanson’s simultaneous Facebook Live broadcast, in which she promised to give behind the scenes commentary as the show ran. It’d be like a DVD commentary track and would ostensibly let Pauline’s fans hear the true story, straight from the horse’s mouth, without all that public broadcaster spin.
It, uh, was not that:

I’m giving you an exclusive behind the scenes (directors cut) of my reaction to tonight’s SBS screening of my political career. M

Instead, Pauline seemed to find the show relatively agreeable in its portrayal of her political journey, because she barely says anything. Instead, you’ve got a weirdly angled livestream of Pauline Hanson silently watching a show about herself in a dimly-lit living room.
It’s like some weird shit out of Eastern Europe that you stumble upon in the dark corners of the web at 3am. It’s like a performance art piece about the crushing ennui of everyday existence. It’s like a racist sitting in a chair for an hour and a half (it is literally that).
Good one.
