Dan Harmon is a lot of things – writer, producer, possible gifted genius, possible alcoholic arsehole. What’s unmistakable though is the output he’s put his name to, chiefly the much beloved sitcom Community, has struck a chord with its audiences that is the envy of many, and the match of few.
Following his much vaunted, much picked apart, later rescinded firing from Community by NBC, Harmon took his podcast Harmontown on the road across America, seeking to get out of the Los Angeles bubble and seeking stages upon which to vent. Cameras followed him, and the result is this documentary on the whole process.
A dishevelled wreck of a man, and my own personal hero, Harmontown has an early October release date and, for better or worse, is one of my own personal most anticipated films of the year.
