Matthew McConaughey has learnt of some truly sad news in not the most opportune way earlier today, when a reporter inadvertently informed him of the recent passing of his friend and former co-star Sam Shepard.
A prolific writer and actor, known to current generations for his recent role in Netflix’s ‘Bloodline‘ (alongside Aussie actor Ben Mendelsohn), Sam Shepard passed away yesterday from complications related to Lou Gehrig’s disease, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
McConaughey worked on-screen with Shepard most recently in 2012’s ‘Mud‘ and is currently in the midst of heavy promo work for his upcoming film ‘The Dark Tower‘, meaning the first he’d heard of the tragic news was on the red carpet
Obviously floored by the revelation, McConaughey first replies with a stressed “what?” before taking a moment to collect himself and sharing some memories of Shepard.
“We lost one of the great ones. Great writer, great mind. All right, see you in the next one, Sam.”
