John Oliver and his magnificent team of hilarious informers at Last Week Tonight have now set their sights on the payday loan industry, and its horrid, many tentacled, hydra-like shoddy business practices – this is, after all, an industry whose bread and butter is trapping customers in endless repayment cycles and fleecing them for all they’re worth.
Along with Sarah Silverman, they present an alternative to payday loans (any-fucking-thing else, seriously) and give a horrifying look into not only the cyclical nature of the business cycle, but how deeply entrenched the business is in the political system, allowing them to seemingly forever stay one step ahead of any legislative hurdles.
