North Korea is Schrodinger’s dictatorship. Inside that depressing, concrete box there is a nation-state that’s both deserving of total ridicule, while also being legitimately fkn scary.
That was in early January, but video of his public apology has been released today. Wild gesticulations? Check. Over-wrought admissions of guilt? Check. Massive portraits of Supreme Leader? Checkitty Check Check, friendo.
Oh, sure, it’s easy to see that and assume he’s taking the piss, but… It all gets political (and significantly less lulzy) when 21-year-old Otto Warmbier says he was basically coerced into the despicable act by the United States government.
Of course that’s preposterous bullshit, but the fact the DPRK feels the need to parade him out like that is deffo messed up.
It’s not known what’s coming next for Warmbier, but watching someone stoop their shoulders that low isn’t good for anybody involved.
