WATCH: Guy Claims He’s The Orlando Gunman’s Ex-Lover In TV Interview

A bizarre story has emerged via Univision, a television network aimed at Spanish-speaking residents of the United States. A reporter interviewed a man who claimed that he was the ex-lover of Orlando gunman Omar Mateen, and that Mateen was a confused, gay man who “bore a grudge” against the Latino men he met at the Pulse nightclub.

Speaking to Univision Noticias anchor Maria Elena Salinas, the man, who went by the name Miguel and concealed his face with a disguise, said that Mateen was motivated by revenge.

“I’ve cried like you have no idea. But the thing that makes me want to tell the truth is that he didn’t do it for terrorism. In my opinion he did it for revenge,” he said.
The man claims that he met Mateen through a gay dating site, that they met between 15 to 20 times, and that Mateen never revealed his name – but did mention that he was married and had a child.
He said that he felt a responsibility to come forward and tell the story “as a citizen of the United States and a gay man,” and that he had been interviewed by the FBI on three separate occasions. The FBI confirmed with Univision that they had indeed met with him.
Omar Mateen opened fire in the gay nightclub Pulse in the early hours of June 12, killing 49 people and injuring dozens more.

United States Attorney General Loretta Lynch spoke to reporters on Tuesday and confirmed that though they were investigating the numerous leads regarding Mateen’s use of gay dating apps, it was important not to focus on a singular motive at this time.
“While we know a lot more about him in terms of who he was and what he did, I do not want to definitively rule out any particular motivation here,” she said.
