WATCH: First ‘South Park: The Fractured But Whole’ Trailer Rips Superheroes

For those of us with even a mild passing interest in gaming, it’s currently Christmas. The E3 convention in Los Angeles is currently rumbling along, with all the heavy hitters in the industry keen to one-up each other by rolling out announcements, debut trailers, big reveals and the like much to the delight of the braying masses.

But in amongst all the hype and brouhaha of E3 day one, the reveal that arguably stole the whole damned show was for South Park‘s hotly anticipated new RPG ‘The Fractured But Whole.’
The game, the follow-up to 2014’s absolutely excellent ‘The Stick Of Truth,’ copped its debut trailer in an on-stage panel featuring Ubisoft reps and show creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker.
‘The Fractured But Whole‘ picks up right where Truth left off, but instead of the South Park kids playing fantasy, this time they’re playing superheroes. The whole game revolves around a battle over how to create their own billion-dollar superhero film franchise. All the important questions are in there: Do you put Civil War in phase one or three? Who gets their own standalone film and who gets saddled with the Netflix series? At what point do you pull the trigger and give a black superhero their own movie?
Naturally, the whole thing is a giant dig at Marvel and DC Comics, and the trailer’s an absolute ball-tearer.

Another video from the reveal goes into some of the finer details of the game, including a revamped combat system (that utilises space and bends the fabric of time via farts) and a poignant and touching superhero origin story for the game’s lead character, Douche Bag.

Ubisoft also revealed that the long wait for the game is nearing an end: ‘South Park: The Fractured But Whole‘ will hit shelves on December 6th.
