Oh, bless. Ya know how Janine the OG ‘Ghostbusters’ secretary, (played by the illustrious Annie Potts) was merely a ~cute gal~ who tried to assist, but was told that she was of no help? She was a good-lookin’ filler character, who was there for her cuteness and sarcasm, not her brain.
So, in order to fulfil everyone’s wishes and keep it canon/don’t fuck it up/pay proper homage to the original film, the new ‘Ghostbusters‘ film with the genders reversed has THE EXACT SAME THING.
Chris Hemsworth is a shallowly-written, super babin’, not-really-that-helpful receptionist – and he’s there for his looks. Nothing else, really. Exact same role, different gender.
It’s v v v interesting that people are upset and believe this role is ‘demeaning’ to Hemsworth (who by the way, openly refers to himself a feminist), when this has literally happened to the vast majority of female characters in film over the years.
