Watch: Bill Shorten Make A Passionate, Impromptu Speech At The Pub

Old mate and Labor Party Leader Bill Shorten just wanted to go down the pub for a cupla quiet ones on Sunday arvo, so he headed towards the Covent Gardens pub in Sydney.
Unfortunately, as we are all well aware from random Monday hangovers, there is no such thing as ‘a couple of quiet beers’ – the situation got a little rowdier than Shorto expected, didn’t it?! Course it bloody did.
According to a Reddit user in attendance, there happened to be a group of passionate, enthusiastic young students there, and they were pretty excited to chat to Bill. And take selfies with him. And allegedly ply him with booze.
Bill decided to give the kids what they wanted, and boom on about how he hopes to live in a country that: recognises Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islanders as such on their birth certificates, has a “strong minimum wage and not be subject to a Royal Commission”, doesn’t charge people over $100,000 for a university degree, has a medical system defined by Medicare card instead of a credit card, treats women equally, and has a commitment to multiculturalism.
While it’s fairly obvious that Shorto took advantage of only including issues that were priorities for the particular crowd he had in front of him (whether the Labor party will keep the Coalition‘s policies on turning back asylum seeker boats, was weirdly not mentioned), his heart-warming ending note about the importance of youth passion for politics is a significant one.
DISCLAIMER: We have absolutely no idea how many beers Bill had consumed before this speech, if any. But it’s not bad, regardless.
