WATCH: Aussie Actors Read Harrowing Letters From WW1 Ahead Of ANZAC Day

For better or worse, there’s no day on the Australian calendar more solemnly observed than ANZAC Day.
And with the 101st anniversary of the Gallipoli Landings approaching on Monday, reserved observances to mark the occasion are swinging into action.
Legacy, in a stirring and humbling effort, has put together a series of videos featuring prominent Australian actors reading out letters penned by soldiers involved in various stages of the ill-fated World War I campaign.
The videos are stark, shot very simply in black & white, and present as a wholly fascinating, often times grim, and usually unheard glimpse into a very real chunk of Australian history; one that defines so much of our national identity.
The first pair of videos, featuring Vince Colosimo and Damon Herriman, are up now.
Over the coming days, additional letters read by John Howard, Ita Buttrose, Josh Lawson, Gyton Grantley, and Diana Glenn will be released.
You’ll be able to watch them at the Letters of Gallipoli minisite.

ANZAC Day, April 25th, is this coming Monday.
Lest we forget.
