WATCH: Amber Heard Discusses Domestic Violence & Responses To It In New Vid

Amber Heard has discussed domestic violence, and called for heightened awareness of the issue, in a new video coinciding with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Towards Women.
Heard, whose divorce from husband Johnny Depp was precipitated by terrifying domestic violence allegations, spoke to women’s photography collective Girlgaze about the issue.

In the video, Heard described the difficulties of coming forward, saying “when it happens in your home, behind closed doors with someone you love, it’s not as straightforward [as] if a stranger did this.”

She then called for broader culture to “take responsibility” by addressing how we discuss domestic violence, as “it’s the only way people will feel comfortable coming forward, raising their voices.”

Heard’s statements come after Australia’s White Ribbon Day, another initiative aimed at raising awareness of domestic violence and responses to it.
If you’re keen to move beyond simply raising awareness in that manner, and would like to take tangible steps to assist survivors of domestic violence, you can find out how right here.
