There’s a wonderful genre of TV with incredible global appeal which gives me schadenfreude beyond any other. It is, of course, the genre of ‘child prodigy gets mercilessly destroyed by actual adult’. Is it hateful to enjoy this? Probably, but I will never stop.
Today’s edition comes out of Russia. Three-year-old chess prodigy Mikhail Osipov went on Russian TV to face off against actual chess world champion Anatoli Karpov. This was never going to end well for poor, sweet Mikhail. He was always going to be humiliated. He may be a wizard at chess, but he’s also three years old.
There are no subtitles, but you do not need them. Skip to about 10 minutes if you want to see the kid cry – which you do.
There is so much beauty in the world – one must only look.
