WA’s Killer Shark Is Being Hunted But Not Killed

Great White Sharks have been making people mud their daks ever since Rob Schneider, Quint and Richard Dreyfuss got in that stupidly small boat to take on a huge one in Jaws. Just like in the movie a search is currently under way for a Great White that fatally wounded a 21-year-old man who had been body boarding off the coast of Western Australia at Bunkers Beach yesterday.

The shark hunt is on but according to reports police said there were no plans to kill the shark and that it would just be herded out to sea.

A shark research scientist from the Fisheries Department Rory McAuley said “There’s no policy to hunt down a shark that may have killed someone and how we’d go about identifying a shark if we happened upon it today, I don’t know because there could be any number of sharks in the area.” In order to determine which shark had made the attack it would have to be killed first, which is kind of like an episode of Parks And Recreation when Andy catches a possum that is supposed to be really bad and is to be “destroyed”, but while in captivity an almost identical possum is spotted on the loose and everyone’s all: but we don’t want to destroy an innocent possum and we don’t know if that one’s the bad one?! Whhaaa…?

This is the issue we have with sharks, and means sharks will always, always have the upper hand on humans.

Tips For Avoiding Shark Attacks
# Don’t swim at night, dawn, or dusk.
# Don’t ever go into the water bleeding or with an open wound of any kind.
# Remove all things shiny before swimming. Sharks like eating shiny things such as fish.
# Avoid waters being fished or with lots of bait fishes.
# Avoid brightly colored clothes. Sharks have good vision for contrast.
# Don’t erratically splash. Unpredictable movements like these are a good way to attract sharks.
# Avoid steep drop-offs and sandbars.
# Don’t float at the surface in open water or where surface feeding can be common.
# Don’t swim or surf alone.
