Viva La Burger Revolution! Neil Perry Is Opening His Very Own Burger Joint

Last week we gave you a bit of a look at some of our picks for the best burger joints across some of Australia’s major cities. Clearly, we compiled this list before we caught wind of the following tasty little morsel of news. Famed chef Neil Perry is preparing to open his very own burger joint right in the heart of Sydney.

The city’s newest helping of burgered meat nestled lovingly betwixt tasty buns will come in the form of the new restaurant, to be called Burger Project, which will be opening in late October at its World Square location, setting up shop smack dab next to Din Tai Fung dumpling house.
Perry’s move follows fellow culinary masters’ moves into the world of meat sangas such as Warren Turnbull‘s Chur Burger, and Sean Connolly‘s Parlour Burger.
Along with Perry’s predictably gourmet take on the classic burgers – patties will be made on site in an open kitchen from 36-month old Cape Grim beef, for those of you keeping score at home – Burger Project is also set to feature house-made chorizo dogs, chicken wings, shaker fries (with a whole mess of different seasonings including chilli and Szechuan pepper) as well as ice-cream, milkshakes and sodas. Even better still, you’re probably not going to be paying much above $10 for anything, if all goes according to plan.
The joint will have licensed seating for 100 with a takeaway option. Perry hopes to expand the project into Melbourne and Brisbane, with Perth and Dubai both in the pipeline for the future.
E-mails requesting a quote for a burger large enough for me to sleep in thus far remain unanswered.
